About 12 years ago, my clients asked me to help them find some land for their wine business. At that time, they were well known and successful vine growers supplying grapes to many local wineries. Their dream was to have a place to make their own wine and host tastings in their own cozy tasting room.
One property in particular was very interesting. 8 acres very near Historic Downtown Leesburg with a 1930’s horse barn. Yes a horse barn. Not just any barn, this was the former horse barn for The Loudoun Hunt. Having housed many horses, hounds and a caretaker in the one room above, my clients saw the vision of what it could be.
Dean and Nancy VanHuss are the owners of Dry Mill Winery. What you see today is the realization of many years of dreaming and planning with a purpose. They revamped the septic system and expanded it with the thought of one day opening a restaurant. The new well is an artisian well- fed by an aquifer. The interior of the barn was completely remodeled and finished with over 5,000 square feet of space on 2 levels. The main tasting room, a restaurant quality kitchen, 2 half baths and a huge wine making area with a bay door for deliveries. Upstairs is a professional office, another half bath and a large meeting or party room. There are several balconies that overlook the grounds. Most weekends, patrons enjoy music by local artists. This is a perfect wedding venue. Local businesses have had company gatherings, retreats and holiday parties or events here.
Drymill Winery is a destination and a successful turn key business. Make YOUR dream a reality!
